Tuesday, October 1 – Arrive Como to pick up car around 1:00pm. Unfortunately, most everything shuts down between 12:30 and 2:30pm here in Italy. Found a restaurant and had pizza and beer. Pizza was better here than in Bellagio. We wanted GPS in the car and had to wait longer to get it. Little did we know it would be worth the wait. The next hotel was way out in the country, a little boutique hotel attached to a winery. It would have been difficult to find with a map. Arrived here around 4:30, did some exploring then off to dinner in Malcavo, a town about 10 miles away. The food was local and delicious.

Wednesday, October 2 – Breakfast and a day trip to Castello Falletti in Barolo. The castle is now dedicated to a wine museum, as Falletti was instrumental in working with Barolo wines. There are only a few regions that can grow Barolo grapes. It’s very interesting and the wine is very good. Left Barolo and headed to Alba, the white truffle capital of the world. It is the most prized truffle of all. Had late lunch/dinner in the piazza, wonderful food. On the way back to the hotel, we found the Familia supermarket and stocked up on snacks and stuff for the next leg of the trip.

Thursday, October 3 – Up early, breakfast and check out of Castello di Rozzana by 10:15 and headed for San Gimignano.
