1. Bellagio on Lake Como

Friday, September 27, 2013 – Leaving PHL at 6:10pm, the good news. The bad news, 21 planes ahead of you ending up in a delay of 45 minutes. Instead of arriving Brussels at 8:00am, it arrives at 8:50am. Flight to Italy leaves 9:40am. Thought we may make it but was unaware of the very long line is customs, then, having to go through security again. It was an Amazing Race to get to the gate but we missed our connection. To make a long story short, we spent the afternoon in an airport instead of Ballagio.

Saturday, September 28,. Finally, at Ballagio, we check in to the Villa Serbelloni. It is magnificent, marble everywhere, beautiful paintings, sculptures, etc. We checked in at 6:00pm and had been up since 6:00am Friday. (There is a six hour time difference in Italy) Got something to eat, then crashed. Woke up around 3:00am with a thunderstorm. The thunder was incredibly loud and long. Think fireworks finale. It may be because of the mountains and lake.

Sunday, September 29, The day was spent exploring the town. It is built on a hill so has many steps to get most places. You’ll see by the pictures. The local church is very old and beautiful. Being Sunday, church bells were heard all morning, not just from Bellagio but from churches across the lake as well. The day was cloudy, a little rain but not bad.

Town of Varenna

Monday, September 30. We decided to do a mid-lake day pass where you can get off and on the lake boats as you please. Towns visited included Tremezzo, Villa Carlotta and Varenna, which was a favorite. Monday night was spent with pizza, a bottle of local wine and the finale of Breaking Bad (just had to see it)

Tuesday, October 1 – Leaving Bellagio by hydrofoil boat from Bellagio down to Como, pick up a car and drive to Castello di Razzzno in Affiano Natta,.
